Apollinaire

"Come to the edge," he said.
They said, "We are afraid."
"Come to the edge," he said.
They come. He pushed them
and they flew.
~ Apollinaire

Byron

600. She walks in Beauty

SHE walks in beauty, like the night

Of cloudless climes and starry skies;

And all that 's best of dark and bright

Meet in her aspect and her eyes:

Thus mellow'd to that tender light
5
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.

One shade the more, one ray the less,

Had half impair'd the nameless grace

Which waves in every raven tress,

Or softly lightens o'er her face;
10
Where thoughts serenely sweet express

How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.

And on that cheek, and o'er that brow,

So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,

The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
15
But tell of days in goodness spent,

A mind at peace with all below,

A heart whose love is innocent!

Flavia Weedn & Randy Pausch

“If one dream should
fall and break into a thousand pieces, never be afraid to pick one of those
pieces up and begin again.”
-Flavia Weedn

My Nana gave me a Flavia calender from 1981, and a newspaper from 1975 yesterday. Flavia's the artist who wrote the poem about people coming into our lives and leaving footprints in our heart. Look for the best in everybody. If you wait long enough people will surprise and impress you. Watch what they do not what they say. There is no such thing as a no-win scenario. Love takes many paths to reach us.

But words are things; and a small drop of ink, falling like dew, upon a thought, produces that which makes thousands, perhaps millions, think."
-Byron

we can not change the cards we are dealt just how we play the hand. never make a decision until you have to. Just because you're in the drivers seat doesn't mean you have to run people over. play fair. Brick walls are there for a reason. They give us a chance to show how badly we want something. The truth can set you free.

Laments

I WANT TO LIVE IN
A SILVER WRAPPER.
I WILL SEE
WHOOPING ROCKS FLY
I WILL ICE ON MY BLACK SIDE
AND STEAM ON MY OTHER
WHEN I FLOAT BY SUNS.
I WANT TO LICK FOOD
FROM THE CEILING.
I AM AFRAID TO STAY
ON THE EARTH.
FATHER HAS CARRIED ME
THIS FAR ONLY TO HAVE ME
BURN AT THE EDGE OF SPACE.
FACTS STAY IN YOUR MIND
UNTIL THEY RUIN IT.
THE TRUTH IS PEOPLE ARE
PUSHED AROUND BY TWO
MEN WHO MOVE ALL THE
BODIES ON EARTH INTO
PATTERNS THAT PLEASE
THEM. THE PATTERNS SPELL
OH NO NO NO
BUT IT DOES NO GOOD
TO WRITE SYMBOLS.
YOU HAVE TO DO THE
RIGHT ACTS WITH YOUR
BODY. I SEE SPACE AND IT
LOOKS LIKE NOTHING AND
I WANT IT AROUND ME.

Outsider Art

Deb told me there was an "outsider art" museum in baltimore. sure enough the American Visionary Museum, Baltimore, MD. I just like looking at pictures. outsider art is created outside the boundaries of official culture. "outsider art" was originally art by psychotic individuals who existed almost completely outside culture and society.

8mm film

One of my favorite compliments ever given to me was about a photography project, they said it made them feel nostalgic for things they had never seen and times they had never known. now it pops into my head when i see others' art. If you want to know where your heart is... look where your mind goes when it wanders. 8mm film is really beautiful.

Dolla Lama

EACH OF US MUST LEARN TO WORK NOT JUST FOR HIS OR HER OWN SELF, BUT FOR THE BENEFIT OF ALL MANKIND.

OUR INTENTION SHOULD NOT BE SPOILED BY THE EIGHT WORLDLY PREOCCUPATIONS: GAIN OR LOSS, PLEASURE OR PAIN, PRAISE OR CRITICISM, AND FAME AND INFAMY.

THE MAIN CAUSE OF DEPRESSION IS NOT A LACK OF MATERIAL NECESSITIES BUT A DEPREVATION OF THE AFFECTION OF OTHERS.

RATHER THAN BEING UNHAPPY AND H8FUL, WE SHOULD REJOICE IN THE SUCCESS OF OTHERS.

IT MAY SURPRISE YOU, PERHAPS, BUT I AM NOT STRICTLY OPPOSED TO THE SPECTACLE OF VIOLENCE AND CRIME. IT ALL DEPENDS ON THE LESSONS YOU DRAW FROM IT.
